A Dreamy Armenian Wedding Followed By A Great Reception

Where is your happy place? For me, it’s behind the camera, capturing incredible moments and memories. For Laurel and Adam, it’s in beautiful San Diego.

Laurel and Adam are opera singers who met in the opera scene. They contacted me on Instagram, asking me to photograph their winter wedding at St. Sarkis Armenian Church in San Diego, which I was thrilled to be a part of!

Laurel And Adam: The Opera Singers

Laurel and Adam are one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever worked with. They recently moved to Detroit for Adam to finish his Speech Pathology degree, but they decided to tie the knot in San Diego. This lovely winter wedding was so special, and shooting at St. Sarkis Armenian Church was an absolute dream.

Since it was a winter wedding, the vibe was a bit darker and moody, making St. Sarkis Armenian Church the perfect location. There were so many opportunities to play with low light, featuring candlelight in the photos.

A Gorgeous Ceremony at St. Sarkis Armenian Church

I have to say, in all my years photographing weddings, I don’t think I’ve ever seen two people more emotional about their wedding. When Laurel walked down the aisle for the ceremony, they both started tearing up, and Laurel kept saying, “This is MY wedding?!” It was adorable, and everyone at the St. Sarkis Armenian Church was so excited to celebrate them.

Laurel’s aunt taught the guests a celebratory Armenian dance to honor their wedding. When the right song came on, everyone broke into the Armenian dance to celebrate with them! Every person at that wedding felt like family by the end of the night.

Since we didn’t get a chance to do a first look shot at the St. Sarkis Armenian Church, we took their photos after the ceremony at Brick. The bride and groom looked positively stunning in their photos. And the mood lighting made it everything more striking!

Before long, it was time to join their guests for a reception at Brick.

Dancing, Drinks and In-N-Out

Brick was the perfect location for Laurel and Adam’s big reception, especially since the industrial layout gave them plenty of space to party. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much candlelight at a reception, which only continued the moody theme of Laurel and Adam’s wedding.

And since Brick allows patrons to stay later than most other venues in San Diego, Laurel and Adam’s guests could dance the night away without a care in the world. It was the perfect location after their ceremony at St. Sarkins Armenian Church. And to keep the late-night energy going, they had In-N-Out cater late-night snacks!

Seeing Laurel and Adam party with their family and friends was a total blast, and I felt like one of the gang before the night was over.

Final Thoughts

Life can take you to unexpected places. But coming back to what makes you happy will always help you feel at home. Laurel and Adam make each other so happy; I have no doubt that wherever they may roam, they’ll find a home in one another.

If you have a wedding or elopement coming up, I’d love to hear about it!
