Kiana Lodge Wedding | Poulsbo, WA
kiana lodge wedding in poulsbo, wa
Andy and Alisa’s wedding at Kiana Lodge was exactly the kind of day that reminds me why I love photographing weddings in the Pacific Northwest. Set right on the water in Poulsbo, with ferries in the distance and the Olympic Mountains in the background, this was a big, high-energy celebration in a place that already brings plenty of atmosphere on its own.
From the start, Andy and Alisa knew they wanted a colorful, movement-filled day with about 160 of their favorite people — something that felt fun, dynamic, and very much them. When they were looking for a photographer, they were drawn to images that felt alive: real emotion, strong energy, bold color, and moments that didn’t feel overly staged. That focus on vibe and connection ended up being a perfect match for how I approach wedding days. As a photographer, I love shooting weddings at Kiana Lodge — there are so many corners of the property to work with. It’s SUCH a photogenic space with endless variety all just steps away.
They met in Seattle, spent a chapter in LA, and made their way back to the PNW just in time for the wedding, bringing a little extra sunshine energy with them. Their dynamic is best described (by them, and now by me) as golden retriever meets house cat — Andy enthusiastic and all-in, Alisa cool, observant, and quietly competitive. What unfolded at Kiana Lodge was relaxed, lively, and centered on the people who matter most. With everyone staying together nearby, it gives big summer-camp-meets-destination-wedding energy.
Where to Stay & What to Do Near Kiana Lodge
One of the nice things about having a wedding at Kiana Lodge is that guests have plenty of good options nearby without needing to overthink logistics (I’ve listed some below if you need some!. Poulsbo is small but well set up for visitors, and you’re also an easy drive (or ferry ride) from Bainbridge Island and Seattle.
For places to stay, Poulsbo has a handful of cozy hotels and inns right in town, plus plenty of vacation rentals for groups who want to make a weekend of it. Bainbridge Island is another popular option — lots of charming hotels and Airbnbs, plus an easy ferry if guests want to explore Seattle before or after the wedding. Seattle itself is also totally doable if guests prefer a bigger-city stay and don’t mind a bit of travel on wedding day.
As for things to do, Poulsbo punches above its weight. Guests can wander Front Street, grab coffee or pastries, do some low-key shopping, or eat their way through town. There’s waterfront walking, nearby hikes, kayaking, and plenty of spots to just sit and take in the view. It’s the kind of place that encourages slowing down — but still gives people enough to do to feel like a proper getaway.
A couple lodging options nearby for guests:
GuestHouse Poulsbo
Hotel Scandi (THIS ONE IS SO CUTE!)
Poulsbo Inn & Suites
Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort
The Point Casino & Hotel
A quick ferry note: if guests are planning to take the Bainbridge–Seattle ferry, it’s worth building in extra time — especially on summer weekends. Walk-on passengers usually have an easier time than cars, and ferry schedules can shift, so checking times the week of (and day of) is key. When in doubt, earlier is always better, and arriving with a buffer makes the whole experience way more relaxed.
