Anacortes Family Photography | Bowman Bay Maternity Session

There are sessions that feel like work, and then there are sessions like this—where it’s basically just documenting real life, except one of your best friends happens to be insanely photogenic and also a wildly talented photographer. This maternity session with Phoebe & Adam in Anacortes, WA was exactly that.

We started at home, which is always my favorite place to begin. I personally love my home and always put a lot of thought and intention to the space I live in, so I ADORE an at-home session. It captures a slice of your life in a moment of time and I think it’s magic. It’s where people actually are—dogs going nuts, light hitting just right in the kitchen, everything feeling easy and unforced. Their two doodle pups fully understood the assignment (chaotic, but in a good way), popping in and out of frames and keeping things moving.

From there, we wandered to a field right by their house—one of those spots that somehow looks incredible without trying. One of those locations I’ve passed on my neighborhood walks a million times but saw it differently this night. An example of not always needing an epic location - a private, simple spot with perfect light is all you need.

We wrapped the night at Bowman Bay for sunset, and it delivered. Soft light, calm water, no distractions—just a really solid ending to the session.

The meaningful part, though, is Phoebe. We spent the last year pregnant at the same time, growing our sons side by side - commiserating over the aches and pains, texting when we thought we felt our first kicks, and dreaming about the future. Photographing her in this season feels less like a “session” and more like documenting a moment we’re both living in.

Nothing over the top—just real life, and a really good night doing what we love. And these photos make me extremely emo to look at because now both our babies are out of our bellies earth-side healthy as can be together. <3
