Mars and Billy are probably one of the coolest couples I’ve ever met. I love getting to work with clients who say, “screw convention; let’s have fun!” And that’s exactly what their disco wedding was like.

They found me on The Knot and said they loved the romantic bohemian vibe I bring to my shoots. After hearing about the vision for their wedding, I could tell this would be a perfect match. They wanted their disco wedding to have tasteful but almost kitschy disco vibes with bohemian undertones.

SIGN. ME. UP. Being a part of Mars and Billy’s wedding was such an honor, especially since I got to shoot their engagement session as well!

The Happy Couple

Mars and Billy met because Billy’s sister is Mars’s best friend; how cute is that? These two actually eloped a year before their wedding, so the wedding ceremony and reception were more like a one-year anniversary. But that didn’t make the day any less celebratory or awesome.

They said they loved the look of film-centric wedding photos and paparazzi-style reception photos, which gave me a clear idea of how they wanted their wedding to look. It was REALLY fun being able to bring that into their disco wedding.

On the big day, Mars and Billy wanted to forgo “first looks” and get ready together, which I loved. It made for a much more relaxed morning, and we caught some adorable photos of them helping each other get ready. Mars even did Billy’s hair for the wedding!

Mars wore a sparkly wedding dress with corset binding and teal blue pumps, and Billy wore a bright red tailored suit. Before long, it was time to head over to Nolita House for the wedding ceremony. They walked to the venue, and we caught some great photos of them along the way.

Valentine’s Day Meets Disco Wedding

Mars and Billy did not shy away from color for their wedding ceremony. The retro 70s-style typeface matched perfectly with their bright pink and red decorations. Combine that with a ton of flowers, disco balls, and a rattan backdrop, and you’ve got yourself a disco wedding.

The ceremony was absolutely perfect, with Billy’s sister officiating as Mars and Billy renewed their vows to one another. There were some teary moments, which was to be expected considering how tight-knit this group was. Soon, it was time to celebrate in some serious style at Herb & Wood.

After the first dance, Mars changed into a fringe-tastic wedding dress for the latter part of the reception, and Billy changed into a pastel pink suit as well. The whole crowd hit the dance floor with major vigor, feather boas and disco balls flying everywhere.

To Sum Up

Weddings like these are an absolute dream for me simply because they are so much fun to be a part of. And with couples like Mars and Billy who want something different, it’s incredibly easy to get creative. I loved being a part of their special day and would work with them again in a heartbeat.

If you have a wedding coming up, I’d love to hear all about it!
